Before making the jump to entrepreneurship, Dessa Samardzija Carter worked in the industry in a variety of roles from Stage Manager for network news & syndicated daytime talk shows to Post-Producer and Business Manager for one of Chicago's largest post facilities. After graduating from Indiana University she began her career in tv news at the ABC affiliate in Indianpolis. Moving to Chicago, she was hired at Post Effects beginning as receptionist and eventually working her way up to Business Manager. In 1996 Dessa switched back into production and became a member of the Directors Guild of America working for various daytime talk shows produced in Chicago. In 2002, Crimson Creative Group was formed with founding partner Colin Carter. Soon after Brooks Ruyle joined and the name was formally changed to Mode Project.
