The advertising and marketing campaign that helped propel Barack Obama into the White House has been honored with the two top prizes — the Titanium Grand Prix and the Integrated Grand Prix — from the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
Chicago-based Mode Project was one of the main creative partners in the campaign, assisting its longtime client and the lead agency, AKPD Message and Media. Mode Project oversaw the design of the now famous Obama logo and produced more than 200 broadcast commercials and additional digital content during the course of the primary and general election.
Of the Cannes win for Obama for America, Mode Project’s Colin Carter says, “We were honored to be a part of the Obama for America campaign and congratulate everyone on the Obama Media Team in this historic, game-changing endeavor. The Cannes honor is the highest in advertising and knowing we contributed to the successes of the campaign gives us a sense of accomplishment, second only to the election’s outcome.”

Just spotted, the Recovery Act logos / emblems have hit the streets. Mode Project’s designs were unveiled by President Obama back in March. Find a ARRA project near you, take a photo and post it on the map. This specific project is for resurfacing 3.37 miles of U.S. Route 34 (Ogden Ave.) East of I-355 (Veteran’s Tollway) to Warwick Ave. in Downers Grove and Westmont, Illinois.

Checking the blogs last night I came across yet another adaptation of the Obama logo ( via Slashfood ). Most interesting is that this marks the second donut & bacon entry here at the Mode Project Blog ( here’s the first ). Somethings up, now I’m going to have to try this combination next. I’ll let you know how it is.

In December of 2006, David Axelrod, chief political strategist for Barack Obama, asked us to create the logo for Obama’s presidential campaign. Wanting to transcend the conventions of traditional campaign branding, Mode Project directed project manager Sol Sender in the development and design of this iconic symbol of new beginnings and change. Soon to be recognized across the country, it was unveiled February 10th, 2007 as Obama announced his candidacy for the presidency.
